Save money on the bills you already pay

Most UK households overpay by hundreds of pounds a year without noticing. The big three — broadband, energy and mobile — can usually be fixed in under an hour, total. Here’s exactly how.

📶

Broadband

Typical saving: £100–£150/yr
  1. Find your contract end date — text “INFO” to 85075 or check your account. Out of contract? You're almost certainly overpaying.
  2. Compare what new customers pay for the same speed — that gap is your bargaining power.
  3. Call and ask for the leaver's team. Say you've seen a cheaper deal; most providers match it on the spot. If they won't — switching takes one phone call and the new provider handles it.

Energy

Typical saving: £100–£200/yr
  1. Take a meter reading and dig out your current unit rates and standing charge.
  2. Check if a fixed deal beats the price cap for your usage — fixes come and go, so it's worth a look every couple of months.
  3. Submit regular readings (or get a smart meter) so you only pay for what you use — estimated bills quietly build up credit that should be in your pocket.
📱

Mobile / SIM

Typical saving: £80–£120/yr
  1. Check if your handset is paid off. After the minimum term you're often still paying a bundled price for a phone you now own.
  2. Switch to SIM-only — plenty of plans with generous data cost under £10 a month.
  3. Text “PAC” to 65075 to switch and keep your number — it takes about a minute, and the new network does the rest.

These steps work with any comparison site — use whichever you like.
